Did you know Pentatonix? Pentatonix (PTX) is an acapella’s group from America with 5 vocalists. The members of Pentatonix are Kirstin Maldonado (mezzo-soprano), Mitch Grassi (tenor), Scott Hoying (baritone), Avi Kaplan (bass), and Kevin Olusola (cello and beatboxing). Their work, which mostly in the pop style, consists of covers of existing songs, and sometimes in the form of medleys, along with original material. Their music is defined by their own arrangement style, tight vocal harmonies, extensive vocal riffing, deap and steady vocal basslines, and a diverse range of vocal percussion and beatboxing.

Pentatonix formed in 2011 and in the same year winning the third season of The Sing-Off on NBC, their victory earning them $200.000 and a recording contract with Sony Music. After that, Pentatonix formed their popular Youtube channel and distribute their music through Madison Gate Records. Now, Pentatonix having 9 million subscribers and more than 1 billion cumulative views in their Youtube channel, PTXofficial.

Their first debut is PTX, vol. 1 was released in 2012, followed by PTXmas, their first Christmas’s album. After that, PTX, vol. 2 debuting at number 1 on Billboard’s Independent Albums chart and number 10 on Billboard 200 in 2013. Another albums are PTX, vol. 3 and their second Christmas’s album That’s Christmas to Me (Highly Recommended!) was certified gold by Recording Industry Asociation of America, and platinum on December 24, 2014, becoming the highest-charting holiday album by a group since 1962, and the fourth-best-selling album in United States in 2014. Pentatonix won Best Arrangement Instrumental or Acapella for their Daft Punk’s cover at the 57th Grammy Awards.
